Jeep Wrangler JKU Short Shifter Installation
Business end of short shifter. The two holes shown are for the 'in gear' detent ball, which drops partially into the appropriate hole to hold the shifter stationary when it is in gear. The strength of the spring and the size/edge treatment of these holes influences how hard it is to move the shifter out of gear. I expect that with use, their edges will peen over slightly and the action will become somewhat less stiff and notchy. The silver cylinder poking out of the mounting hole at the top left of the image is to align the shifter with the transmission before the hardware is installed. (see image 29) There is a corresponding one not visible on the opposite hole on the bottom right.
